Floor Cleaning system troubleshooting
Last Updated: 11/16/2010
If you have a pool floor cleaning system not operating properly you must first assess the situation and observe the system operating.

  • Is the floor cleaner system on and operating?
    • What is the pressure as the water valve changes from station to station?
    • Is the pump on and running?
    • Are the valves adjusted properly?
  • If the system is on and operating observe the pool floor heads.
    • Is the water valve changing zones or is it stuck in one position?
      • If it is not changing zones verify that the water valve is not placed in a pause position.
      • Make sure the zone that is up all of the time does not have a blocked head that prevents water to pass through it.
      • If the problem persists, rebuild the water valve or replace the water valve module.
    • Are the heads rotating as they come up and go down?
      • If not, verify they are coming up all of the way.
        • If they are coming up all of the way, pull the head, make sure there is no debris in the head keeping it from rotating properly.
        • Check the heads for wear, replace as needed.
        • Verify that the proper heads are installed.
        • If they do not open all of the way, turn the pumps off, pull the water valve apart and check the unit for internal damage.  Replace or rebuild as needed.
    • Is there a pile of debris in one spot in the pool floor?
      • Make absolute certain that the proper down jets are in place on the pool walls and aimed properly.
        • Replace or re-aim as needed
      • Make certain that the heads are rotating properly.
        • See the rotating troubleshooting above.
      • What is the time and pressure at the zones adjacent to the dead zone come up?
        • If there is not enough pressure on the water valve the size of the oriface in the floor head may need to be adjusted smaller.  This will increase the pressure on the zone and increase the time the zone spends operating.
      • If you have fixed heads around the main drain, are they aimed properly?
